Working on my painting skills. Currently I'm working on face structure, using Lamp Black and Titanium white, to get to the most important part of any painting. Besides gesture and proportions; VALUE! This was 60 minutes, about 45 on the head and 15 on the body.
Enjoy!

I Lied.
I mentioned in my last post that I was going to work on some original stuff, well I lied. I'm continuing my studies on painting and storyboarding from Rapunzel. Taking a break from the story side I decided to do a copy of Scott Watanabe's digital painting in order to learn some new techniques. Below is the Work in Progress (WIP). I still remember Jeremy Saliba's teaching in the Workshop's at AAU. "Always start with big shapes. If you are zooming in at the beginning you are worry about detail too much. No zooming in!"

Line work
This is a study of a Ron Garney cover from "Ultimate Spider-Man" #100. I'm working on my digital drawing which includes having unbroken pen lines or strokes. I'm working on breaking the habit of having a sketchy line. I think this is the last study I'm going to do for a while and I'm going to work on a finished piece.

Great Workshop Fun
Here are some pastels completed at a recent workshop, each one is a 20 minute study. Bill Sanchez's workshops are always hilarious, he is such a great teacher, and "crazy" to boot. If you ever had him as a teacher you'll be able to tell which one he corrected.
Being that I'm no longer in school there is a huge weight off of my shoulders. I didn't have to worry about learning as much as possible as quickly as possible. Funny part about that is I learned even more this time around, probably because I was relaxed.

"Master Copy"
Many times people think when an artist copies anothers work or use references, it means they don't know much about illustration or art. Quite the contrary, many artists use references, take ref shots, or do copies of "Masters" works in order to learn a technique. Today I took some time and copied Marcos Mateu-Mestre's work in order to learn his digital drawing technique. This rough drawing took about 105 minutes and I learned a lot.
I look forward to continue to learn from his book "Framed Ink".

Second Rapunzel Study
This study I had the following goals in mind:
- Form and opposing shapes to make a more interesting drawing.
- Getting use to drawing w/ Wacom.
- Learning to draw in an animation style.
