Many times people think when an artist copies anothers work or use references, it means they don't know much about illustration or art. Quite the contrary, many artists use references, take ref shots, or do copies of "Masters" works in order to learn a technique. Today I took some time and copied Marcos Mateu-Mestre's work in order to learn his digital drawing technique. This rough drawing took about 105 minutes and I learned a lot.
I look forward to continue to learn from his book "Framed Ink".
