Today's Progress

You Don't Have To Finish

Doing a Master Copy of an Avengers piece done by Ryan Meinerding (Google him, his stuff is good) in order to learn some digital painting techniques. The other day I was talking to a teacher about the challenges of growing in art and working full time, then he said these words, "You don't have to finish." Upon hearing that it felt like a hundred pound weight was removed from my shoulders. He was referring to practicing and doing copies and not works that would be sold or done for a client. At times I'll put pressure on myself to finish a practice piece instead of just learning from the process. So instead of taking a huge chuck of this great piece Ryan did and feel overwhelmed, I'll focus on one piece of it.

Here is to "not finishing". My goal will be to complete the helmet, chest armor, and hands doing an energy blast, to learn how he gets that look. It's quite surprising how it's coming together and the detail work has not even been started. So far all my teachers and the pros are right. It's all about value and nothing else. Imagine that... teachers being right (I'm being sarcastic). Looking to get this done in the next 2-3 days in the middle of my other work that needs to be done. This has been sitting in the to do pile for too long. Enjoy.
